Return to Light

The story

I came in barefoot, no name, no plan, and if I do this right I'll leave the same, just with slower hands. I spent my youth wanting more and calling it purpose. Now every wrinkle is proof of a weight I didn't need, and I'm laying it down like seed. The goal was never more. It was always less, until you can leave the way you came: light.

Lyrics

I came in barefoot
Eyes wide open
No name, no guilt, no plan
And if I do this right
I’ll leave the same
Just with slower hands

I spent my youth chasing the fire
Wanting more, reaching higher
I put purpose in a bank account
And love in someone else’s mouth

But now the mirror tells the truth
And every wrinkle’s proof
That I’ve carried weight I didn’t need
And laid it down like seed

The body grows old
But the soul must grow new
Strip it all back
Till it’s just what is true
We don’t take the titles
We don’t keep the fight
We leave like we came
Light

The kids are gone, the rooms are still
The to-do list is just windowsills
And now I walk with softer feet
Through streets that once were incomplete

I don’t need to win the race
I don’t need a younger face
I just want to laugh at the sky
And mean it when I say goodbye

The body grows old
But the soul must grow new
Wash off the roles
Till it’s just me and you
We don’t take the praise
We don’t need the right
We leave like we came
Light

The goal was never more
It was always less
To unbuild the walls
And walk out undressed
In wonder.
In grace.
In peace.

The body grows old
But the soul must grow young
Sing without shame
The unsung songs
We don’t take the fear
We don’t keep the night
We leave like we came
Light

I came in barefoot.
I leave barefoot.
That’s enough.
