The Road South

The story

One bag in the back seat, one dog on the floor, and a road that bends like a question I had been too tired to ask. Three names ride behind me, Nelson, Madiba and the boy in the bed, and Clay rests his jaw on my leg like the war is already won. It was never about the coastline. It was the moment I chose south when everything else said decay. The soul survives when you name the pain, and then you keep driving.

Lyrics

[Verse 1: Just Me and the Miles]
One bag in the back seat,
One dog on the floor.
The road bends like a question
I've been too tired to ask before.
Clay breathes through the silence,
Natalia hums in the light,
And somewhere past these border signs
Waits a man I've never quite been right.
[Chorus: The Road South]
This is the road south,
To something slow, to something true.
I packed the map but lost the plan,
And found the wheel in you.
Three names behind me,
Three fires ahead,
Nelson, Madiba, the boy in the bed.
Now the seat is full,
But I hear them say:
"You're ready now. Take the road away."
[Verse 2: Three, Three, Three]
Nelson walked me through silence,
Madiba burned like the sun.
And Clay just rests his jaw on my leg
Like the war's already won.
It's not about the coastline.
It's not about the stay.
It's the moment I chose southward
When everything said "decay."
[Chorus: The Road South]
This is the road south,
No summit and no finish line.
Just a heartbeat in the highway,
Just a whisper: "Now is time."
Three lives behind me,
Three truths remain,
The soul survives when you name the pain.
And I feel their shadows in the salted gray,
A silent vow on the road away.
[Verse 3: Windows Down, Heart Open]
The wind tastes like the Adriatic,
The sun cuts through the haze.
I'm driving through the man I was,
Letting go of yesterday's maze.
There's laughter from the passenger seat,
And Clay snoring in the lane,
And somehow they all ride with me,
In joy, in grief, the same.
[Final Chorus: And Still I Go]
So here I go,
One country, one turn, one song.
Clay beside me,
Natalia holding on.
Three, three, three in the mirror's sway,
But forward now,
On the road...
South.
[Outro: Whispered over ambient fade, heartbeat percussion, soft humming]
"Roman..."
"You've come so far."
"Through fire, through silence, through the weight of what couldn't stay."
"And still, you kept driving."
"You stayed."
"And now..."
"The road is warm."
"Now go south."
