The Pilgrim

The story

I burned the house before anyone else could, and I called it control. I learned to leave before I was left, and to keep walking as if salvation lived around the next bend. Then I asked the question I'd been outrunning: if I stop, will I still be here? Maybe home was never a place. Maybe it's the courage to stop and see what's left when nothing is burning.

Lyrics

I burned the house before you could,
Left nothing standing where I stood.
Every time I built a name,
I struck the match and fed the flame.
Not destruction, just control—
Better ashes than a stolen soul.
I learned to leave before I'm left,
To walk away before there's theft.

I'm a pilgrim with no destination,
Just the next bend in the road.
I keep moving like salvation
Lives somewhere I haven't gone.
If I stop, will I still be here?
Or just another ghost that disappeared?
So I walk, and walk, and walk alone—
A pilgrim searching for a home.

You asked me why I never stay,
Why I build just to walk away.
I don't know how to trust the light
When every room I've loved turned night.
I want the eyes, I crave the praise,
But when it comes I'm just amazed
That someone sees me standing here—
Then I wonder what they really hear.

Maybe home was never a place.
Maybe it's the courage to stop running
and see what's left when nothing's burning.
Maybe I'm not lost.
Maybe I'm just walking toward the version of myself
who doesn't need to prove he's still alive.

I'm a pilgrim, but I'm stopping here,
Just to see if I'm still real.
No more walking just to feel,
No more burning just to heal.
Maybe home is standing still,
Maybe peace is just the will
To let the fire die down low—
And trust I'll still be here below.

A pilgrim, finally home.
A pilgrim, no longer alone.
